I hope XLN will figure out a way to modify AD2 to be supported by GB. I venture to guess there are millions of GB users like me who are willing to pay for good drum sounds but have a budget to work in. XLN discontinued their forum, which I believe if still there would be awash with frustrated GB users. The thing is there isn't much discussion about AD2 limitations with GB on the web. For amateur musicians who stretch a music-habit budget, an extra $199 dollars for a new DAW or being faced with learning a new DAW altogether for good drum sounds for a song may make people think twice about buying AD2. I looked forward to purchasing more ad-paks and to the potential to use my e-drum kit with AD2 and GB. The price and interfacing abilities of AD1 with GB made that purchase cost effective, easy and it inspired better recordings. I play live music with a band and I enjoy dabbling with my small home studio. It may also be disappointing for other GB users as well. However, it’s this very decision that is the source of my disappointment. It is one I'm considering, not only for the AD2 capabilities. Immediately you can see that they have added six additional kitpiece slots, which addresses one of the few common complaints about the original. Here in Pic 1 are the GUIs of the two versions of Addictive Drums. Upgrading from the original Addictive Drums will cost you $79.95, $99.95 if you want to also add another “ ADpak”. You will probably want to begin with one of the three available bundles, which range in price from $179.95 to $449.95. You can also buy additional “kitpieces” and “MIDIpaks” which include genre specific beats all ready to drag and drop into the work area of your DAW. The concept is modular so you choose which kits you want to buy by buying “ADpaks”.

Therefore, pretty much any modern computer with an Intel CPU, OS X 10.7 or later, or PC with Windows 7 or 8, should be just fine with it. They recommend a 64-bit OS and at least 4 GB of RAM. Indeed it is! XLN brags that Addictive Drums 2 takes the instrument to “a whole new level” and that is not hyperbole. It quickly became my “go-to” plug-in for drums.Ī short while ago, I was invited to beta test its updated version, the now newly released Addictive Drums 2 and I passed because I felt I could not devote the necessary time to testing it as I was promised it was a major update.

Performing tasks, swapping out kit pieces, using included MIDI files, etc., was easy. I liked the simplicity and elegance of the GUI as well as the actual sound of the drums. Right away I knew that this would be a winner for me. Tweak the EQ and shaper, add reverb or delay, tune in some tape compression or vinyl noise.Several years ago, I was invited to join a beta test team of a new company, XLN Audio, to test their new virtual instrument named Addictive Drums, which could be used either as a plug-in or as a standalone.
